Which lake is your happy place? Share in the comments! Then see if it’s among Larry Sickmann’s unique designs.
Larry Sickmann of Rosemount’s Lake Supply Company wanted a North Shore souvenir to commemorate a family vacation. After rejecting a number that felt cookie-cutter, “I found one that I liked that said ‘North Shore’ on it,” remembers Larry. “It turned out when I returned to work that a co-worker had the identical shirt with ‘Madeline Island’ printed on it.”
Something needed to be done to better celebrate the famed Minnesota Lakes. “I wanted to recognize these places we love, the places we spend our time at whenever possible, with some originality.”
Larry’s background in hand-lettering and logo design let him combine his love of lake life with his creative outlet. “I’ve always been intrigued by people making a living from creating, whether it’s woodworking, crafts, design or music. The one that I can do is design. In 2018 I started really digging into hand lettering, just for fun. In January of 2019, I designed my first hand- lettered lake and thought, ‘Huh, that’d look cool on a shirt.’”
Larry has over 100 designs available on his website www.lakessupply.com. Don’t see your favorite? Larry accepts special requests on his website. Be sure to specify the lake name, state, and county.
Larry’s happy place is Whiskey Lake outside of Brandon. He loves its secluded feel, “Lots of special memories and experiences in, on and around that lake.”
His favorite part of being part of the maker community is how, “Everyone is in it to ‘make’. They truly enjoy their craft, and are willing to offer advice, lend a hand, and be kind.”
Larry donates 5% of his sales to https://mnlakesandrivers.org to protect Minnesota’s lake and river heritage.
