We loved experiencing your new space. As always, the flavors and presentation were exceptional. You are so skilled at your chosen craft. Each month’s meeting with @womenwhoreallycook is a new adventure. We explore woman-led food and beverage businesses throughout the Twin Cities metro (and sometimes beyond). Every meeting is an opportunity to learn something new. Our members are chefs, farmers, writers, photographers, CPG innovators, stylists, bakers, brewers, co-op and grocery store team members, farmers market organizers, cottage producers and magazine publishers. Kudos to @coffeewompleroastery and @minneapplegirl Kudos to @coffeewompleroastery and @minneapplegirlbakes for hosting the March @womenwhoreallycook meeting. We learned about the innovation that drives @coffeewompleroastery to pursue the most sustainable coffee roasts possible. Leading with their gorgeous orange electric roaster, their packaging is compostable and their waste product is all composted. Working closely with their international partners allows @coffeewompleroastery to celebrate the rich flavors of the coffee belt. Complimenting our delectable brews was @minneapplegirlbakes signature banana bread. This banana-rich bread is packed with flavor. Available with or without chocolate chips in vegan and gluten friendly recipes as well. It was a delightful pairing for this morning meeting. It’s such a joy to share in the passions of our members and learn more about their work. @Womenwhoreallycook meets monthly throughout the Twin Cities metro (and sometimes beyond)! We’re sharing local love several times a week on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Ambit, and Threads! Our monthly newsletter now reaches over 1000 lovers of Minnesota’s small businesses. Each feature introduces you to a farm, food producer, artist or artisan who lives and works here in Minnesota. Explore our gift guide. Updates underway to make sure that you find unique Mother’s Day items from one of 140 Minnesota makers or service providers. I love cooking at home. Something that’s surpr I love cooking at home. Something that’s surprised me is how that simple act can connect me to the greater Minnesota community, especially our growers and producers. How can you support local farmers directly? Think about it—it’s blustery and cold today, but growing season plans are well underway. Your local farmers and producers are already planning their seasons. They’ve ordered seeds, high tunnels are loaded with baby plants. Your support makes the difference in their ability to provide a more sustainable product. Sustainable doesn’t mean organic—though it can. Sustainable here means locally sourced, short transportation, minimal soil disruption, animals that live outdoors, and eating with Minnesota’s seasons. Exploring a CSA—whether of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally-raised meats, cheese, or breads and grains—allows you to eat better while having a direct positive impact on the health of Minnesota’s farm economy. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms and businesses are real life examples of individuals collaborating at the local level to support the common good and build thriving communities. Through the CSA model a farm becomes the community’s farm.  “The CSA model allows us to build a more sustainable business model for @tcfarmmn and all of our partners,” explainsJack McCann. “With a CSA we can make it possible for the farmers to thrive and the consumers to trust their purchases.” The USDA defines a CSA as a “farm operation that becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm.”  In return for their investment, the consumer receives a share of the farm’s products on a weekly, every other week, or monthly basis. We just celebrated our SEVENTH Taste Makers Class We just celebrated our SEVENTH Taste Makers Class at @mn_arboretum. The latest class featured @hartcountrymeats beef @x2pastries sourdough and unicorn macarons and @fiddleheadknob dried and fresh mushrooms. Even though I had interviewed all the makers ahead of time, I always walk away having learned something new. It’s a dynamic environment to ask questions, sample, and learn about these unique Minnesota businesses. Thank you to all the makers for sharing their passion, their knowledge, and their tastes. These classes exist thanks to the inspiration of @chefbethfisher. Beth envisioned the Farm at the Arb demo kitchen as a space for makers and creators to be able to teach and share their craft. As always, Beth provided all the guests with delectable bites. The menu included warm mushroom cappuccinos, over roasted mushrooms with kale, and pan seared flank steak. What role can social media play in rebuilding communities and fostering human connection? How can local businesses and organizations help people feel a sense of belonging and purpose? Looking forward to discussing these questions and more with an inspiring panel of local experts at Saint Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN) tonight! This is a Youth Community Journalism program. Their focus is on on how we can create a more positive, connected, and healthy future with the prominence of social media and technology. I look forward to learning from the other panelists as we consider these questions. We’re going to have a live audience to share in our thoughts.
