Ingredients
- 5 thick slices of Fiddlesticks Table Loaf about 300 g
- 6 Tbsp salted butter melted, plus more to grease the baking dish
- 1 Tbsp white sugar
- 5 medium apples McIntosh or your favorite
- 3 Tbsp lemon juice
- 3/4 C. brown sugar packed
- 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease the bottom of a 2.5-3 quart baking dish with butter.
- Pulse bread in a food processor until you have large crumbs. Spread crumbs on a baking sheet in an even layer. Toast 7-10 minutes in oven until dry and golden.
- Transfer bread crumbs to a bowl. Toss with melted butter and white sugar.
- In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Peel, core and slice apples about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into bite-sized pieced. Toss apples with lemon juice.
- Assembly time! Spread half the apples on the bottom of your baking dish. Layer with half of the brown sugar mixture and half of the bread crumbs. Repeat, using up the remaining ingredients.
- Cover dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake until bread crumbs are golden and apples are tender, about 8 to 10 minutes more. Best served with vanilla ice cream!
